Exciting New Update to ODB's 24/7 Community Fridge

Our Daily Bread has made big changes to its outdoor self-serve area! We have a new enclosure to further protect the refrigerator from the sun and we've added a freezer! Approximately 3 years ago we installed the Community Fridge with the help of our landlords, the Town of Middletown. We had no idea when we started just how much use the Fridge would get. These days there is a steady stream of people visiting the Fridge to pick up something to eat for themselves or their family. Each month now we distribute thousands of meals through the Fridge and distribute over thousands of pounds of food to our visitors. In September we distributed an all-time high of 9100 pound of food through the fridge. After three years in the elements, the Fridge’s enclosure was beginning to deteriorate. Last week we initiated a process of replacing the Fridge enclosure. The larger enclosure will feature not only the Fridge but a chest freezer to distribute frozen food and improved shelving to allow us to share and allow easy access to canned goods. The construction project has been led by super-volunteer Frank Brewer and a cast of Whispering Woods Community members who framed out the enclosure in Frank’s garage and began piecing it together this week at ODB Thanks also to Mike Bogdanowicz, Rich Clement, Tom Garone and the Middletown Maintenance Department for all their help.
