About us

ODB is the only soup kitchen in the Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend region. We are a volunteer run organization with over 300 volunteers. Volunteers help us purchase and pick up food and ingredients, prepare and serve meals, and clean and maintain our facility.

Last year we served over 43,000 meals, an average of over 3,600 meals a month and each month over 1250 individuals show up to pick up meals at ODB.  We continue to run a very clean, efficient, and productive operation with very low overhead costs of approximately 8-10%.

We currently serve 7 hot meals a week (Dinner: Monday-Friday from 5-6 pm and Lunch: Tuesday & Thursday from 12-1pm). We have seen a significant expansion in the use of our services in the past two years as the price of food had increased, which has had a disproportionate impact on those in our community who are poor, or living on fixed incomes.

In the Spring of 2022, we opened a Community Fridge on site so that those who are hungry in our community will have access to food…24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We were concerned that we were not providing the opportunity for folks who are working to access food. The Community Fridge is a great supplement to our regular meal service.
Since adding the Community Fridge we have instituted a robust Food Rescue Program in which our volunteers pick up food at local businesses and rescue food that would normally be thrown out, so we can repackage it for distribution to our guests.  We are currently distributing over 5000 pounds of food each month through the Community Fridge.
